Amherst County Colonial Day
Take a step back in time to learn about education, entertainment, and farming in Amherst County during the Colonial Era. Interpreter Rick Sheets, in the role of a Journeyman Horner, will be on hand to demonstrate working with horn, Trish Duncan Thomas will demonstrate flax dressing , along with members of the Cardinal Lace Guild displaying their lace making skills and Dawn Smoot Doss spinning. There will also be Revolutionary War soldiers, physician/surgeon, civilians, a fifer and drummer, silversmith, blacksmith, pouch maker, music by the McKenzies, a batteau-man, and an exhibit on Colonial toys. Period games such as Rolling Hoops, Graces, Battledore & Shuttlecock, Quoits, and Ball & Cup will be available for both children and adults to engage in. Visitors will be able to try their hand at writing with a quill pen as was done in the day.
