Invisible Founders: How Two Centuries of African American Families Helped Transform a Plantation into a College
Presented by Lynn Rainville, VCCA Fellow and Acting Dean of Sweet Briar College. She is also the founding director of the Tusculum Institute for local history and historic preservation, located at Sweet Briar. She has written numerous articles and books, including Hidden History: African American Cemeteries in Central Virginia (2014); Sweet Briar College (2015); Virginia and the Great War (2018); and Invisible Founders (forthcoming, 2019), on which this talk is based.
