She is also the founding director of the Tusculum Institute for local history and historic preservation, located at Sweet Briar. She has written numerous articles and books, including Hidden History: African American Cemeteries in Central Virginia (2014); Sweet Briar College (2015); Virginia and the Great War (2018); and Invisible Founders (forthcoming, 2019), on which this talk is based.
