Amherst County Colonial Day
Take a step back in time to learn about education, entertainment, and farming in Amherst County during the Colonial Era. Interpreter Rick Sheets, in the role of a Journeyman Horner, will be on hand to demonstrate working with horn, Trish Duncan Thomas will demonstrate flax dressing, along with members of the Cardinal Lace Guild displaying their lace making skills and Dawn Smoot Doss spinning. There will also be Revolutionary War soldiers, physician/surgeon, civilians, a fifer and drummer, silversmith, blacksmith, pouch maker, and batteau-man. Two Magic Shows by Colonial Magician, William The Conjuror. Period games such as Rolling Hoops, Graces, Battledore & Shuttlecock, Quoits, and Ball & Cup will be available for both children and adults to engage in. Visitors will be able to try their hand at writing with a quill pen as was done in the day. Come prepared to learn and play. Event made possible by The Greater Lynchburg Community Trust Foundation.
